Location: San Luis Obispo, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (6 PM – 6 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week)

Job Description

Seeking an experienced Telemetry Registered Nurse for a travel contract. The nurse will float between two units: a 14-bed MedSurg/Telemetry unit and a 44-bed main unit with a cardiac stepdown focus. Patient care includes surgical, orthopedic, medical, and cardiac cases such as post-cath, post-pacemaker, post-PCI, TAVR (day 1 or greater), CABG (day 1 or greater), sepsis, and respiratory distress.

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
• EMR system: Cerner
• Monitor system: Phillips with monitor tech support
• Nurse’s responsibilities include reading telemetry strips and managing drips (amiodarone, heparin, cardizem, fixed rate insulin, nitro, dopamine for renal dosing)
• No ventilators, but may use BiPAP or CPAP
• Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
• Pharmacy not available 24/7; after-hours support via MAR system after 10 PM
• No IV team support
• Charge nurse role not required
• Nurse aides available: 1 on night shift, 1 on mid shift, 3-4 on day shift
• Floating required between the two units
• Orientation: 6 hours floor-specific orientation

Schedule & Work Requirements

• Weekend shifts: every other weekend (4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule)
• Holidays worked in rotation with permanent staff
• Scrub color: navy

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Telemetry nursing experience
• Active California RN license
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications
• COVID-19 vaccination required

Additional Information

• Hospitalist or Intensivist available on call after hours
• Typical patient acuity includes stepdown cardiac patients and complex medical cases requiring telemetry monitoring
