Registered Nurse - Med Surg

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (19:00 - 07:30)
Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)
Weekend Hours: Every other weekend as required
Call Requirements: None


Job Description

  • Provide direct patient care for Med/Surg patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Utilize the nursing process to deliver patient care for all age groups.
  • Coordinate patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize care and comfort.
  • Maintain professional accountability and confidentiality of patient information.
  • May be floated to other units depending on staffing needs.
  • Night shift orientation occurs on day shift; availability for the entire orientation week is required.
  • Must comply with flu vaccination requirements from November 1 to April 1 (no declinations accepted).

Unit Information

  • Unit Type: Med Surg
  • Number of Beds: 15 (with 15 additional beds under construction)
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:6-7 on nights (ratios not guaranteed)
  • Equipment Used: Nova Meters (blood glucose), Alaris IV pump, Kangaroo pumps, SCD machine
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience in an inpatient setting within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing and walking during shifts
  • Physical demands include bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
  • Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs; pinch up to 15 lbs; minimal kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids is a high-risk factor
  • May require working varying schedules and shifts based on patient care needs

Additional Information

  • Scrub color: Black (no open-toed shoes or other unacceptable attire)
  • Flexible scheduling options available (36 or 48 hours/week)
  • Holiday time off requests limited to one per assignment
  • Must be a team player willing to provide care to a diverse patient population
