Job Opportunity: Central Sterile Technician

Job Summary

Responsible for performing advanced tasks in the sterile processing department of a healthcare facility. This position does not require patient care.

Essential Functions

• Receive used medical instruments and equipment from operating rooms or other departments.
• Load prepared instruments and equipment into sterilizers following prescribed loading patterns and protocols.
• Conduct regular quality checks of instruments, equipment, and packaging materials to ensure compliance with sterilization standards.
• Assist with managing inventory levels, including receiving, inspecting, and restocking sterile supplies.
• Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot sterilization equipment and instrumentation.
• Provide guidance and training to less experienced sterile processing technicians.

Required Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Experience cannot substitute for education.

Experience

• 1-2 years of experience as a Central Sterile Technician or similar role in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Required years of experience: 2 years (using the higher value interpretation).

Licenses & Certifications

• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) preferred.
• CST Certification (NBSTA or NCCT only) required for Massachusetts locations.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required for onboarding.

Additional Requirements

• Documentation of immunizations and health screenings including:

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine or proof of immunity
  • Hepatitis B vaccine or proof of immunity (strongly preferred)
  • Influenza vaccine during flu season (Sept 15 - April 30) with no exemptions
  • TB test within 3 months of start date and updated if >6 month break
  • Health statement signed by a licensed provider within 365 days of start date
• Criminal background checks, CORI, SSN trace, sex offender check, exclusion checks, and education verification required prior to onboarding.
• Resume with past 7 years of work experience and 2 recent references (minimum 1 supervisor or above) required for submission.
• Skills checklist and candidate submission coversheet required for submission.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, lifting (35 lbs+), and carrying (20-35 lbs)
• Occasional sitting, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching
• Rare climbing
• Frequent reaching, gross and fine manipulation
• Constant near and far vision
