Role Summary

The Certified Surgical Technician (CST) provides technical support in the operating room, including scrubbing, assisting the RN circulator, setting up and breaking down surgical procedures, and handling supplies, equipment, and environmental service duties.

Required Qualifications

• MGB Resume
• MGB References: 2 references within 4 years of submission, with at least 1 supervisor or above in the skillset
• MGB Skills Checklist: completed within 1 year of submission

Key Duties

• Ensure proper supplies, equipment, and instruments are ready for use
• Clean and disinfect the operating room and related surfaces between cases
• Restock operating rooms as needed
• Assist other operating rooms for coverage
• Prepare cases for the next day
• Operate sterilizer, lights, suction machine, and other designated equipment as needed
• Maintain sterile technique and report breaks in sterile technique
• Perform hand scrub, gowning, draping, and instrument handling
• Ensure correct patient, procedure, operative site, positioning, and equipment
• Anticipate surgeon needs and communicate with circulators
• Prepare and preserve specimens
• Verify medication name, strength, and dosage with circulator
• May help transport patients and restock the operating room
