Registered Nurse - Surgery

Location: Kyle, Texas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 11:00 AM – 9:30 PM

Job Description

• Perform circulating nursing functions before, during, and after surgical procedures, including monitoring and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care.
• Assist operating physician with surgical tasks such as hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure, and patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, and equipment for use.
• Work requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work independently in a stressful environment.
• Scrub experience is helpful but not required.
• Participate in weekday, weekend, and holiday call rotations.
• Follow Standard Precautions and use personal protective equipment as required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
• Minimum of 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience.
• Operating Room experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Required Credentials & Compliance (Prior to Start or Onboarding)

• Professional resume/profile and at least two professional references.
• Nursys license verification and primary source license verification within 30 days prior to start.
• Completion of specialty competency exam with minimum passing score (updated every 3 years).
• Completion of core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA topics (updated every 3 years).
• Health and immunization requirements including:

  • MMR (two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted)
  • Varicella (two vaccines, immunity evidence, or history; no declinations accepted)
  • Tdap (valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted)
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (exemptions accepted with mask requirement)
  • 2-step PPD or IGRA testing for TB, with chest X-ray if positive
  • Fit test for respiratory protection (preferred prior to start)
  • Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
• Background checks including criminal history, EPLS, and drug screening (12-panel) within 30 days prior to start and updated annually.
• Education and employment verifications completed within 90 days prior to start.
• Completion of onboarding requirements including assignment agreement, badge photo (optional), and various Ascension-specific modules and attestations.

Additional Information

• Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful surgical environment.
• Participation in call rotations including weekends and holidays is required.
