Registered Nurse (RN) - Compliance Auditor

Location: Dallas, Texas

Job Summary

The Compliance Nurse Auditor conducts audits of patient medical records to ensure clinical documentation supports treatment, coding, billing, payment, and operational accuracy. The role focuses on compliance with clinical best practices, system policies, regulatory requirements, and payor rules. The auditor provides detailed reports, corrective action recommendations, and collaborates with various departments to maintain quality of care, patient safety, and revenue integrity.


Key Responsibilities

  • Audit patient medical records to verify documentation accuracy and compliance with evidence-based guidelines.
  • Develop and document clear audit findings and corrective action plans.
  • Monitor compliance risks related to quality of care, patient safety, and revenue integrity.
  • Consult with management and provide recommendations to address discrepancies.
  • Assist with audits and inquiries from government agencies and contractors.
  • Support policy and procedure development based on regulatory changes and audit findings.
  • Stay informed on changes in laws and regulations related to healthcare compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal departments including Internal Audit, Patient Financial Services, Health Information Management, Care Management, Government Reimbursement, Regulatory and Accreditation, Clinical Research, Clinical Support Services, and Legal.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Texas
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Clinical Document Improvement Specialist, including experience within the last year
  • Certification in healthcare coding (must be maintained):
    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
    • Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • Detailed knowledge of compliance program requirements for hospitals and academic health systems
  • Ability to evaluate healthcare compliance issues and make appropriate recommendations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience conducting clinical quality or utilization reviews or compliance audits involving federal healthcare programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Experience in coding, revenue cycle, Charge Description Master (CDM), or revenue integrity.

Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Detailed knowledge of hospital compliance program requirements.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills tailored to clinical and non-clinical audiences.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to handle difficult conversations with sensitivity.

Additional Information

  • Work week runs Wednesday through Tuesday.
  • Overtime and holiday pay at 1.5x rate.
  • Callback pay applies with a minimum of 2 hours per call-back.
  • No nonbillable orientation hours.
  • Cancellation policy allows up to 3 shift cancellations per 13-week contract.
  • Local candidates within 60 miles are accepted.
