Job Opportunity: House Supervisor (Registered Nurse)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Responsible for leadership of a large inpatient facility with 311+ beds, including Emergency Department, Family Birthplace, Surgical Services, 14 medical-surgical units, and a 20-bed ICU.
  • Acts as the house supervisor overseeing nursing care across all units organizationally.
  • Collaborates with ICU charge nurses and providers who serve as Rapid Response Team (RRT) and Code Team.
  • Utilizes centralized staffing office with staffing coordinators covering 80 hours/week.
  • Supports off-shift nurse manager working 4p-2a, 4 shifts per week.
  • Shifts available: 8a-4p, 4p-12a, or 12a-8a (8-hour shifts, 40 hours/week).
  • Uniform: Navy blue or white scrubs combo required.
  • EPIC electronic health record system experience required.
  • No acceptance of first-time travelers; candidates must have prior travel experience.
  • Candidates must live more than 75 miles from the facility (no local hires).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
  • Minimum 1 year of manager experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment.
  • Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification.
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements including Department of Public Health (DPH), The Joint Commission (TJC), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Prior House Supervisor experience.
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.

Health and Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually).
  • Fit mask test (annual, acceptable mask types specified).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year).
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive, completed series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season.
  • Snellen eye exam (within 1 year).
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required.

Background and Verification Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start (including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, education verification).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, updated monthly.
  • Foreign education equivalency evaluation if applicable.
  • Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees).
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start.
  • Employment application and work history verification (at least 2 past employments).
  • References (2 within 3 years) required for direct hire candidates.
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations.

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers are not accepted.
  • Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility location.
  • The role involves managing multiple units and requires strong leadership and clinical expertise.
  • Shift coverage includes weekdays and weekends, with supervisors covering extended hours and holidays.
