ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Kerrville, Texas

Job Summary

• Provide critical care nursing to critically ill patients in a rural 12-bed ICU.
• Surgical ICU experience required.
• May float to medical/surgical units when ICU/IMC census is low (orientation provided).
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5 or 1:6 when floating.
• Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:30 to 7:00).
• Approximately 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period.
• Contract length: 13 weeks.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Texas.
• Minimum 3 years of Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) experience, including experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• ACLS certification.
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Experience with MEDITECH electronic health record system.

Additional Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
• E-Verify compliance.
• Background checks including 7-year history, SS trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender registry, education verification.
• Annual federal exclusions and sanctions checks (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG).
• Primary source verification of state license.
• Competency exams with minimum 80% score as applicable.
• Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement.
• Professional references: 2 required within 3 years of start.

Health and Immunization Requirements (Time Sensitive - must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing)

• Negative TB test (PPD, TSPOT, or QGold) within 1 year; if positive, negative chest X-ray within 5 years and annual TB questionnaire.
• Vaccinations or documented immunity/declination for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Seasonal Flu (or facility-specific declination during flu season)
  • COVID-19 vaccine or declination
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year (instant acceptable).
