Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Ortho/Trauma/MS)

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Patient Ratio: 1:5

Job Description

• Work primarily in Orthopedics, Trauma, and Medical-Surgical units.
• Floating within scope to Medical-Surgical and all hospital care areas, including Emergency Department (ED) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for admitted Medical-Surgical holds.
• Coordinate resources, perform serial patient assessments, identify changes, analyze trends, prioritize care, communicate effectively, and document thoroughly.
• No on-call responsibilities.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
• Block scheduling may be accommodated at manager’s discretion.
• First-time travel nurses accepted.
• Locals are not accepted for this position.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
• Experience in Orthopedics and Trauma nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Required Compliance & Documentation

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
• Criminal background check within 12 months, including SSN trace, 7-year county residency/work history, nationwide search, and sex offender search.
• State-specific background checks and registries as applicable for Missouri.
• Negative drug screen within 12 months.
• Physical exam within 1 year indicating good health.
• TB test (PPD, Qgold, or TSPOT) within 12 months; chest x-ray within 5 years if prior positive PPD.
• Immunizations or proof of immunity for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B (or declination).
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
• COVID vaccination series preferred.
• OSHA Respirator Clearance required prior to start for fit testing.
• Fit testing will be completed onsite during orientation; must be clean-shaven for fit test (no PAPR/CAPR provided or accepted).
• Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and post-start orientation checklists.
• Photo for badge (passport style, plain background).
• Confidentiality and security agreements, standards of ethical conduct, and relevant policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start.

• No on-call duties.
• Floating to various units within scope of practice.
• Night shift with 3x12 hour shifts per week.
• Strong documentation and communication skills required.
• Must submit Return to Office (RTO) requests with application; final approval at manager discretion.
• Candidates must complete all required modules and training prior to or during orientation.
• Candidates must complete AbioMed Impella online training if assigned to ICU/CCU or Cath Lab (not required for this position unless floated).
• References and skills checklist required per agency standards.
