Observation Unit

Overview

  • Travel/Contract role in Omaha, Nebraska.
  • 13-week contract option.
  • Night shift: 3x12 hours, 19:00–7:30.
  • 36 hours per week.
  • Observation Unit provides care for patients needing evaluation and treatment for 8 to 48 hours.
  • The unit commonly sees chest pain, asthma, abdominal pain, kidney stones, and minor infections.
  • The role may float within scope, including potentially to Bellevue campus; possible units include 4CS, 5 West, 6 Neuro, 4/5 Lied, 6/7 Lied, 7 HVU, 8 Werner, 9 Trauma, Bellevue MS, Observation, and SOTU.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Nebraska.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association.
  • NIHSS.
  • One completed travel assignment.
  • 2 years of experience in CDU - Clinical Decision Unit.
  • CDU - Clinical Decision Unit experience within the last year.
  • DOU - Direct Observation Unit experience.
  • Experience in an Academic Medical Center or Acute Care setting.
  • Experience with IV therapy and medication drips.
  • Experience with Epic.
  • Must be more than 100 miles from the facility.

Preferred

  • ACLS.

Work Conditions

  • Ratios are 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights; rare night ratio can be 1:7.
  • Drips are required on all floors.
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period.
  • Travelers must work 2 of 3 major holidays.
  • Up to 2 weeks of RTO is permitted.
  • Pending license is accepted; if not in hand at submission, booking will be 6 weeks out.
  • Scrubs are mandatory: Steele gray scrubs with the Nebraska Medicine logo on the back.
  • Parking is available for a permit at approximately $55/month or daily parking at $3 for 20 hours.
  • 100% nicotine-free facility.

Additional Notes

  • Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, swoop/paramedics, and LPNs on some floors.
