Step-Down Registered Nurse
Overview
- Travel/contract role in Dayton, Ohio
- Night shift: 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
- 13-week contract
- High-acuity, fast-paced step-down unit
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Stepdown (2 years of experience)
- Stepdown experience within the last year
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Ventilator/tracheostomy experience
- Cardiac monitor interpretation skills
- Chest tube and drain management
- Cardiac drip administration
- IV start capability
- Experience in a large hospital (minimum level 2 trauma center)
- Experience with Epic
- Ability to pass an online EKG tele competency assessment before starting
- Must be available to work at least every other holiday
- Must be available to work every other weekend/holiday
- Must have current Nursys report and application/resume submitted
- Government-issued photo ID
- E-Verify documentation
- 2 references from within the last 2 years, with at least 1 from a manager, supervisor, or charge RN
- Skills checklist within 1 year prior to documentation due date
- Current physical exam within 2 years of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- Drug screen within 12 months prior to documentation due date
- Annual health questionnaire
- Candidate agreement
- Respiratory protection medical questionnaire and clearance
- RespSafety clearance within 1 year of start
- Background check and required federal exclusion checks
Preferred Qualifications
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Experience in a level 1 hospital preferred
- Travel experience preferred
Unit Details
- Target patient ratio: 1:4, with ratios up to 1:5–6
- Patient population includes DKA, GI bleed, COPD, pneumonia, stroke, sepsis, and urology complications
- Common clinical needs include cardiac monitoring, ventilator/trach care, chest tubes, drains, NIH stroke care, and cardiac drips
Scheduling and Assignment Notes
- Must be available for every other weekend and holiday
- RTO must be requested with the initial submission; no RTO added after offer
- Traveler may be floated at the facility’s discretion, including to medically appropriate support roles or other campuses within the system
- For a 48-hour contract, overtime is paid after 48 hours
Additional Notes
- N95 fitting is required before working on the unit unless PAPR is offered or needed
- Navy blue scrubs are required
