Travel Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Start Date: ASAP
Shift: Nights, either 4x12 or 3x12 shifts (19:00-07:30), including weekdays and weekends (3 shifts per 4-week period)

Unit Information

• 34-bed Medical/Surgical unit with telemetry
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 to 1:7

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications Required Prior to Start

• BCLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Certification
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) but BCLS and NIH Stroke Certification are mandatory for this role

Important Notes

• Facility expects high attendance reliability; only 2-3 call-offs tolerated per contract
• Scrubs are not provided
• Must submit:

  • Candidate profile/work history
  • Specialty-specific skills checklist (updated annually)
  • Minimum 2 clinical references from managers or charge nurses within the past 2 years
  • RN license verification
  • Copies of all required certifications

Health and Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands (updated annually)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
• Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B as per facility policy
• Drug screening (10 panel) within 30 days of start and updated annually
• COVID vaccine or documented declination required
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct-April)
• Completion of facility-specific learning modules and competency exams prior to start
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and federal exclusions screening

Additional Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during work hours
• Completion of facility-specific forms and surveys prior to start
• Completion of Cerner EMR training modules before orientation
• Compliance with facility’s ReadySet health assessment surveys

This position offers the opportunity to work in a telemetry-capable medical surgical unit with a supportive team and structured scheduling. Candidates should be prepared for night shifts and meet all certification and compliance requirements before starting.
