ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Christiansburg, Virginia

Position Overview

• Discipline: Registered Nurse (RN)
• Specialty: ICU / Critical Care Unit (CCU)
• Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Details

• Unit: 12-bed CCU with medical and surgical patients
• Patient Types: Respiratory failures, pneumonia, COPD exacerbations, DKA, vascular and general surgery, chest pain, encephalopathies, drug overdoses, renal failure, sepsis
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Approximately 2:1
• Floating: Required to float within skillset
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
• Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• Charting System: EPIC experience required
• Call Off Policy: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
• Accepts First-Time Travelers: Yes
• Locals Accepted: No (radius rule applies)
• Pending License Accepted: Yes, if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, active Virginia State or Compact RN license required

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Minimum 2 years ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Clinical skills including arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, IV initiation and maintenance
• Experience in ventilated patient care, pulmonary edema management, and pulmonary embolism management
• Proficient in titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Adherence to IV insulin protocols
• Experience with EPIC charting system

Required Documentation & Compliance

• I-9 or attestation
• Valid Driver’s License/State ID (must meet radius criteria)
• Background check covering 7 years of history (not required annually unless break in assignments)
• E-Verify or attestation
• Education verification of highest earned degree
• Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
• Fit test within 1 year, updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
• Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• References: 2 clinical references required
• Skills checklist updated annually
• Completion of facility-specific compliance and orientation documents

Additional Notes

• Must include all scheduling requests with submission
• Candidate must be able to work night shifts and meet weekend/holiday requirements
• Floating within skillset expected
• Prior travel experience is not required for this position
