Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 5 days per week (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
Hours: 40 hours per week (8 hours per day)

Job Details

• Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 7 patients
• No call, float, or weekend requirements
• Scrubs color: Navy blue
• Strict 5-day maximum return-to-office (RTO) policy
• Epic electronic health record experience required

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Louisiana
• Minimum 1 year of Hematology/Oncology nursing experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• Certifications required:

  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • ONS/ONCC certification (Oncology Nursing Society/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation)
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Competencies & Exams

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 80% or higher; valid within 12 months and updated annually)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for telemetry-related units; must score 80% or higher; valid within 12 months and updated annually)
• Core Competency Exams Part I, II, and III (required and must be updated annually)

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months prior to start (not required by facility but required by placement agency)
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations accepted with appropriate exemption forms)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start (two-step skin test or equivalent; annual TB questionnaire required)
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters required if titer is low (must complete second booster within 60 days if started without it)
• Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or declination (declinations must be signed within 12 months of start)
• Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters required if titer is low (must complete second booster within 60 days if started without it)
• Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (Oct 1 – Mar 31); exemptions and declinations accepted with proper documentation; mask required if unvaccinated
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded panel depending on hire date)

Background & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID matching all candidate documentation
• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including:

  • Social Security trace
  • County, nationwide, sex offender, federal, and FACIS Level 3 checks
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Employment application with 7 years of work history, no gaps over 30 days

Additional Notes

• Prior travel experience is required; no first-time travelers accepted
• No call, float, or weekend shifts required
• Strict adherence to facility policies including employee appearance
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification may be required depending on unit (not specified for this role)
