Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) with a patient ratio of 1:1-2 (may vary if floated).
  • Patient population includes fresh heart surgery patients, ventilated patients, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and patients with chronic and acute renal failure.
  • Experience with devices such as Impella, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) using Prismax, or experience with fresh heart cases is required.
  • Required skills include post-operative open heart recovery, Swan-Ganz catheter management, Flotrack monitoring, temporary pacers, arterial lines, and chest tubes.
  • Experience with fresh open heart surgeries such as CABG, MVR, AVR, and TAVR is essential.
  • Floating is required to all ICUs, PACU, Emergency Department for ICU holding patients, and Intermediate Care Units (IMC).

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • IV Certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Pass/Fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge
  • Experience in post-operative open heart recovery
  • Proficiency with Swan-Ganz catheter management
  • Experience with Flotrack (FloTrac) monitoring
  • Experience managing temporary pacers
  • Experience with arterial lines (A-lines)
  • Experience managing chest tubes
