ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Augusta, Georgia

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for a travel/contract position in an ICU setting caring for adult to geriatric patients. The unit is a Medical Surgical ICU managing complex critical care diagnoses and treatments.

Contract Length

  • 12 weeks

Patient Population

  • Adults to Geriatrics

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in specialty (ICU)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

Clinical Skills and Work Setting

  • Experience with critical care conditions including but not limited to:

    • Sepsis, severe sepsis, septic shock
    • Respiratory failure and pulmonary diseases
    • Post cardiac arrest care
    • GI bleed and hemorrhagic shock
    • Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
    • Acute kidney disease
    • Complicated surgical cases (e.g., perforations)
    • Pulmonary edema and embolus
    • Drug overdose (intentional and accidental)
    • Hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia
    • Hypertensive emergencies
    • Cardiac arrhythmias
    • Rhabdomyolysis
    • Metabolic encephalopathy
    • Malignant neoplasms
  • Procedures and therapies:

    • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
    • Targeted Temperature Management (TTM)
    • Chest tubes, bronchoscopies, lumbar punctures, incision & drainage (I&D)
    • Central line insertion assistance and maintenance of central and arterial lines
    • Peritoneal dialysis
    • Continuous bladder irrigations
    • Continuous IV infusions including pressors, paralytics, sedatives, cardiac medications

Staffing and Workload

  • Nurse to patient ratio: 1:2-3
  • Unit size: 15 beds, 13 rooms, average daily census of 12
  • Floating within facility as needed and within scope of practice
  • Weekend schedule: Every other weekend unless otherwise specified
  • Call: None
  • Holiday work expectations: Required to work major holidays if they fall during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day)

Systems and Tools

  • Epic electronic health record system (required)
  • Pyxis medication dispensing system
  • SBAR communication framework

Orientation and Compliance

  • Return to Orientation (RTO) maximum 7 days
  • Compliance with all onboarding and credentialing requirements mandatory to start on time
  • Orientation hours vary based on contract length

Required Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse license for the state of Georgia

Health and Background Requirements

  • Background check required within 30 days prior to start
  • Education verification required (degree related to nursing)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B titer or signed declination
    • Flu vaccination or declination (seasonal)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start

Competency Exams (Aya requirements)

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
  • Color blind testing
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (for ICU/telemetry specialties)
  • General competency exam for nursing

Additional Notes

  • Scrub color: Navy blue
  • Locals accepted at same rate
  • Floating within facility as needed
  • No call requirements
  • Must be able to work assigned holidays as specified

This position is ideal for ICU Registered Nurses with at least 1 year of critical care experience who are comfortable managing complex adult and geriatric patients in a fast-paced ICU environment. Prior travel experience is not required.
