Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech

Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Summary
Assist surgeons during various surgical procedures by preparing and maintaining sterile fields, selecting and preparing surgical supplies and equipment, and ensuring quality patient care. This role involves no weekend shifts, working Monday through Friday, with on-call duties 1-2 days per week (4-hour increments, with a 30-minute response time).
Key Responsibilities
Surgical Services
- Assist surgeons in a variety of surgeries and procedures.
- Establish and maintain sterile fields, including sterile tables, tools, and patient draping.
- Prepare necessary supplies and equipment for surgical procedures and ensure they are in working order.
- Complete routine and priority tasks within departmental time frames.
Clerical
- Perform clerical tasks such as retrieving, entering, and revising patient electronic health records.
- Document supply inventory and order new supplies as needed.
Safety
- Maintain a clean, neat, and safe operating room environment before and after procedures.
- Inspect and calibrate equipment, record quality control results, and report malfunctions.
Compliance
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient protected health information (PHI).
- Perform work in compliance with department standards, policies, and regulatory requirements to ensure patient safety.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or military training as a scrub technician.
- Surgical Technician certification (TS-C, CST, or NRST).
- Minimum of 1 year of Surgical Technician experience, with experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Certifications & Licenses
- Surgical Technician Certification (TS-C, CST, or NRST)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) (AHA or ARC only)
Experience
- Specialty: Surgical Services
- Required years of experience: Minimum 1 year of recent Surgical Technician experience.
- Prior travel experience is NOT required.
Work Schedule
- Monday through Friday, no weekends.
- On-call 1-2 days per week, 4-hour increments (response time within 30 minutes).
- Call shifts are not typically long.
Background and Health Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start.
- Various federal and state background screenings including FACIS Level 3.
- Education verification required.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually.
- Immunizations and titers required: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start, renewed annually.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana due to CA law).
- Other health screenings and documentation as required.
Additional Notes
- Candidate must maintain confidentiality and comply with all regulatory and facility policies.
- Must be able to respond promptly when on call.
- No weekend shifts required.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
