Job Opportunity: Surgical Services - Travel/Contract

Location: Santa Barbara, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Perform standardized instrument processing and decontamination to prevent infection spread.
• Work independently with sound judgment to support department functionality.
• Disinfect and distribute supplies; perform equipment maintenance, testing, and setup as needed.
• Execute safe and precise sterilization procedures integrating education and technical competence.
• Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety.
• Help deliver optimal patient care.

Required Certifications and Experience

• CBSPD (Certified Biological Safety Professional in Sterile Processing)
• SPT Certification
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Preferred Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)

Background Check Requirements

• 7-year background check within 6 months of start, including:

  • Social Security trace with all aliases
  • County searches for last 7 years of residence/work/school
  • Nationwide sex offender search within 90 days of start
  • Education verification (highest level achieved)
  • FACIS Level 3 screening within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks, updated annually
  • Motor Vehicle Report if applicable (for driving positions)
• Transcript/Diploma verification as needed
• Pending background check attestation not accepted for certain facilities

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• CCRN (Critical Care RN)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
• IV Certification (for LVN/LPN/Other as applicable)
• Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
• NIH Stroke Certification
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
• Miscellaneous certifications as applicable (e.g., Nuchal Translucency Imaging)

Competency Exams (As applicable)

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
• General Competency Exam (minimum passing score 80%)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (for some Tele units)

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (must clear for work)
• Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (exceptions apply)
• Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
• Immunity or vaccination for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (series or declination)
  • Varicella
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per CA law)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30)
• Color blind exam if applicable (in-person only)
• Respiratory safety clearance prior to start, renewed annually (exceptions apply)

Documentation and Compliance

• Full 7 years of work history with no gaps in employment
• Unit-specific skills checklist, renewed annually (as applicable)
• References: 2 professional references for clinical/allied/per diem acute care; 1 for per diem non-acute care
• Must review and sign facility-specific documents including:

  • Job description
  • Standards of business conduct
  • Code of conduct
  • Vendor training
  • Overpayment refund policy
  • TB questionnaire (within 90 days, renewed annually)
  • Conditional offer of employment attestation
  • Religious accommodation forms if applicable

Notes

• Failed fit tests due to facial hair require shaving and retesting; other failures may require PAPR training.
