Job Opportunity: Laboratory Specialist (Travel/Contract)

Location: Greenville, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM, every other weekend

Experience Requirements

  • Must have prior Trauma Level 1 experience
  • Recent travel experience required (No first-time travelers)
  • Minimum 1 year of EPIC experience
  • Must hold a valid Phlebotomy certification from one of the following: NPS, ASCP, AMT, ASPT, NHA, ACA, NCCT, NPCE, NPA, NAPT, NHCO
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

Certifications & Training Requirements

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or ARC only; must be current and valid at start
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for certain units; must be current
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for pediatric units and ER; must be current
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for NICU and Pediatrics; must be current
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for ER/ED and Pediatric ER candidates; must be current
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute): Required for ER/ED, Pediatric ER, Behavioral Health; must be current
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB): Required for ER/ED, Pediatric ER, Behavioral Health; must be current
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required annually for ICU, Neuro ICU, ER, and other specified units
  • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course): Required for ER and Pediatric ER; must be current
  • Tech Certification (National): Must be current and valid
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: HIPAA form required, expires annually
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for RNs, Electrophysiology Techs, and Monitor Techs
  • State License Verification: Primary source verification required; license must be current and valid for South Carolina
  • IV Certification: Required for LPN/LVN candidates

Compliance & Background Checks

  • 7-year background check within 12 months of start required
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
  • Fingerprinting required if applicable (e.g., if lived/worked in WV in last 7 years)
  • Education verification required (highest level of education)
  • Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually (5-panel minimum)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working in high-risk areas)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption required by deadlines

Additional Requirements

  • Must comply with Prisma Health Floating Policy: agency staff may be required to float to other units or campuses as needed, only to units where qualified
  • Badge photo required prior to start (passport-style, specific background and quality requirements)
  • Completion of online Cornerstone modules within 72 hours of assignment (approx. 12 hours of training) mandatory before start
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams required annually
  • Color blindness testing required for nurses assigned to Emergency Department, Pediatric ER, and MLTs/MLSs
  • Core training (Parts I, II, III) required annually, covering universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, OSHA, TJC National Patient Safety Goals, and more
