Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Waltham, Massachusetts

Job Details

• Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in the Operating Room (OR)
• Preferred Experience: Orthopedic and sports medicine pediatric experience preferred
• Patient Population: Ages 6 months to adult
• First-Time Travelers: Accepted
• Weekend Requirement: No weekends required
• Shift Details:

  • 5-8 hour shifts with rotation to four 10-hour shifts
  • Short call requirements (2-hour evening short call)
  • No night call requirements currently
• Locals Accepted: Yes (within 50 miles)
• Special Requirements:

  • OR experience including orthopedic/sports medicine pediatric preferred
  • PALS certification required
  • Familiarity with Epic electronic health record system is a plus

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, NRP, Chemo, EFM) but BLS and PALS are mandatory for this role

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Proof of name change if applicable
• Massachusetts Statewide iCORI release (background check) within 60 days of start
• 10-year criminal background check within 6 months prior to start, including aliases and multiple federal/state databases
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
• State license verification through MA.gov within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
• Professional certification verification within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared to work with no restrictions
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual requirement)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) proof or titers
  • Hepatitis B documentation or declination
  • Varicella proof or titer
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption (deadline November 14)
  • COVID vaccination series or approved exemption; seasonal COVID vaccine preferred
• Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months (not required for APN)
• Respiratory Safety clearance required for all travelers (virtual questionnaire and onsite fit testing)

Additional Requirements

• Two professional references from two of the last three employers
• Employment application with 10-year work history; gaps over 30 days require explanation
• Unit-specific skills checklist within one year prior to start
• Completion of onboarding packet prior to start
• Compliance with facility-specific background check and fingerprinting processes (including EEC Background Check Consent for Behavioral Health/Psych positions)

Work Environment & Other Notes

• Parking available with discounted rates and shuttle service for off-site parking
• No night or weekend call currently required
• Short call shifts are evenings with 2-hour notice
• Familiarity with pediatric orthopedic and sports medicine preferred

This position is ideal for RNs with OR experience, especially those with pediatric orthopedic/sports medicine skills, who are looking for a travel contract in Massachusetts with a reputable pediatric hospital system. First-time travelers are welcome.
