Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Sacramento, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room at a Level I Trauma Center. This is a travel/contract position requiring strong trauma and ER skills in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.


Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of ER experience (first-time travelers accepted only with 2+ years ER experience)
  • 1 year of Trauma Level I experience required (travelers with prior Trauma Level I experience preferred)

Specialty & Unit Details

  • Trauma Level I adult and pediatric care
  • High volume psych, sepsis, and stroke cases
  • Neonatal/pediatric visits (~1000/month) with 18-20% pediatric admissions
  • Fast Track - Rapid Care (no resuscitation room, no pediatrics, no triage)
  • OBS Holding (30-40 patients)
  • Multiple pods including MS Tele Psych Holding and Rapid Care
  • ED - ICU and designated COVID hallway patients (20 patients)
  • Magnet facility status

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) preferred
  • BSN preferred

Skills & Competencies

  • Experience working in Level I Trauma Center
  • Starting and maintaining IVs
  • Ability to manage patients with PCA pumps (staff manage pumps)
  • Completion of unit-specific competency exams and medication/pharmacology exams required

Prior Travel Experience

  • Prior travel experience not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted with sufficient ER experience

Required Licenses

  • Valid California RN license (primary source verification within 30 days of start)

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam cleared within one year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95 or equivalent) within one year of start
  • Immunizations and titers: Tdap, TB screening, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or declination required by November 1
  • Background checks including criminal, SSN trace, sex offender, and nationwide criminal search within 30 days of start
  • Completion of UC Davis-specific orientation modules and HIPAA training prior to start
  • Badge pickup required prior to orientation

Additional Requirements

  • Two clinical references required (one from most recent or within 6 months)
  • Employment application covering last 3 years with explanation of gaps over 6 months
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required
  • Submission of RTO (Return to Office) documentation upfront
