Job Opportunity: LVN / LPN - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Unit Description

• 14 bed overflow unit for ED boarder patients
• Med/Surg Telemetry unit
• Flex space inside GI Endoscopy area; patient census may fluctuate based on demand
• Float required to care for Med/Surg patients as needed
• Weekend coverage every other weekend (EOW)
• Call required depending on staffing needs
• Communication via SBAR for ED patients; verbal report for other transfers/admissions
• Previous charge experience preferred
• EPIC experience required
• Open to first-time travelers
• Scrubs: Navy blue/white

Required Qualifications

• Specialty: LVN / LPN
• Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty
• Licensure: Valid LVN/LPN license for New York State
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit (verify specific unit requirements)
• Skills:

  • Emergency Department experience
  • Med/Surg Telemetry care
  • Blood Glucose Monitoring/Testing
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Foley catheter insertion (male and female)
  • Administration of ear drops, eye drops, IM & SQ injections
  • NG Tube/G Tube care
  • Ambulation assistance
  • Oxygen administration (face masks, nasal cannula)
  • Bathing (sitz, tub, bed, shower)
  • Mouth care
  • Patient admission
  • Communication of patient status changes to RN/MD
  • Isolation precautions
  • Vital sign monitoring

Additional Requirements

• Government issued photo ID required
• Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• Education verification and transcript/diploma as applicable
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Fit mask testing within 1 year, updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• Immunizations or proof of immunity for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Drug screening within 30 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
• Snellen eye exam within 1 year
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
• Facility-specific documents and attestations required prior to start
• References and employment verification required

Travel Experience

• Prior travel experience not required
• Unit accepts first-time travelers

Scheduling & Other Notes

• Block scheduling may be accommodated but not guaranteed
• Locals within 75 miles not accepted
• Minimal Return to Origin (RTO) restrictions
• Float required based on patient census and unit needs

This position is ideal for an LVN/LPN with at least 1 year of Med/Surg and telemetry experience, comfortable working in a dynamic overflow unit with variable patient census, and who is open to travel assignments.
