Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)

Job Description

• Position in a community hospital surgery suite specializing in spine/joint surgeries with a high volume of orthopedic cases and use of robotics (Zimmer systems).
• Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 5x8 hour shifts, days (either 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM).
• On-call required 2-3 times per month overnight (10:00 PM - 6:30 AM) plus one weekend on-call per month (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM).
• No float assignments.
• Documentation system: Meditech.
• Support available from multiple departments including Interpretation Services, Pharmacy, Radiology, Respiratory, Physical Therapy, and more.
• Provider coverage includes Intensivist, Hospitalist, Anesthesiologist, and CRNA available 24/7.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 2 years of Surgical Tech experience required; 4 years preferred.
• Travel Experience: First-time travelers are accepted; prior travel experience is not required.
• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA only) required.
• Skills: Must be proficient in a wide range of surgical procedures and skills including but not limited to:

  • Ambulatory OR, Community Hospital OR, General OR, Bariatrics, Endoscopic/Laparoscopic, ENT, Gynecology, Orthopedics (including spine and total joints), Robotics (Da Vinci Si Surgical System and others), Urology, Vascular, and many more complex surgical procedures.
  • Knowledge of fire safety, aseptic technique, instrument processing, isolation precautions, laser and radiation safety, sharps safety, sterilization/disinfection, and universal protocol (time out) procedures.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Hybrid OR, Pediatric General OR, Neurosurgery/Spine, Plastic Surgery, Podiatry, advanced robotic systems (Da Vinci SP, Xi, Mako, Mazor, Monarch), and additional complex surgical procedures such as vascular repairs, bronchoscopy, colonoscopy, and various reconstructive surgeries.

Orientation & Other Details

• 16 hours of orientation provided.
• Scrubs provided.
• No local candidates within 50 miles accepted.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background checks including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, and international searches if applicable.
• Drug screening: 10-panel including THC within 30 days of start.
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • COVID vaccination plus booster or approved exemption.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days (with specific protocols for past positives).
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B titers or vaccinations as required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination with mask requirement.
• Fit mask testing required prior to start.
• Physical exam within last 12 months, updated annually.
• Various facility-specific acknowledgments and signed documents related to safety, abuse reporting, confidentiality, code of conduct, and employee handbook.
• Professional references (2 within last 2 years) required.
• Skills checklist and competency exams required annually.
