Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Bel Air, Maryland
Specialty: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele - ED Borders)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Schedule: Every other weekend required; holidays as scheduled
- Patient Population: Variety of diagnoses; ER border area covering all units except critical care
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5 nights / 1:4 weekends
- Floating: May be required within the specialty
- On-call: Not required
- Scrub Color: Navy blue
Experience Requirements
- Years of Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years required
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers with strong experience are accepted
Licenses & Certifications Required
- Maryland RN State License
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (must be current and updated annually)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred but not mandatory
Competency Requirements
- MS/Tele competency exam specific to unit required
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score 80% or higher)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (score 80% or higher)
- Age-specific competency exam (score 80% or higher)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
Background & Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Education verification for highest level of education
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 30-45 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
- Two professional references required (one must be a supervisor or charge RN)
- Previous 5 years of employment history verification required (attestation accepted if necessary)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (including Latex Screen)
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (required for certain units; ER RN not required unless pediatric ER)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes, updated annually
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted for low/equivocal titer)
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 6 - Mar 31)
- COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation or declination collected for tracking
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Confidentiality agreement and unit-specific job description must be signed prior to start
- Security ID application and badge photo required
- Review and sign facility appearance standards, fingernail hygiene policy, standards of business conduct, and agency acknowledgment
- Completion of OSHA questionnaire required
- Completion of self-learning program prior to start (used for orientation post-test)
Additional Notes
- Candidates may be required to float within the specialty area
- Orientation includes completion of certain modules and competency attestations
- Some certifications and competencies may be completed during orientation if not already held
This position offers a structured night shift schedule in a dynamic ER border unit with a variety of patient diagnoses, suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of experience in MS/Tele or emergency nursing. Prior travel experience is not mandatory, making it accessible for first-time travel nurses with strong clinical backgrounds.
