Job Description

  • Perform pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic laboratory procedures on biological specimens.
  • Deliver accurate and timely results to aid healthcare providers in diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and prevention of disease.
  • Maintain competence in all Cytology practices with advanced training.
  • Responsible for specimen/material receipt, preparation, interpretation, archival, and retrieval per department policies.
  • Collaborate with physicians, clients, and staff to ensure superior patient care.
  • May perform specific procedures and orient new staff to the department.

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • ASCP-CT certification
  • California State License (must be verified within 30 days of start)
  • ACLS (AHA or ARC) – verify by position
  • BLS (AHA or ARC) – verify by position
  • Other certifications may be required depending on position (e.g., PALS, NRP, CCRN, TNCC, EFM, CPI) – verify by position

  • Employment history verification: Full 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days; gaps over 1 year not accepted without approval
  • References: 2 professional references required (Aya requirement only)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (annual renewal only for specific units)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (exemptions apply for some roles)
  • Immunizations:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Proof of immunity or vaccination with boosters as needed
    • Hepatitis B: Series or signed declination; must complete series if started
    • Varicella: Proof of immunity or vaccination with boosters as needed
    • Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30) or signed declination
  • Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start
  • Color blind exam: In-person exam required if applicable
  • Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start (not required for Clinical Lab Scientists)

Competency Exams
