Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty (PCICU experience strongly preferred; NICU, Pediatric Stepdown, and Pediatric RNs also considered)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
- Licensure: North Carolina or Compact nursing license required and must be in hand
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Yes
- Orientation: Bi-weekly
- Local Candidates: Accepted within 75 miles
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted
- Flu Vaccine: Mandatory with no exemptions or declinations accepted
Key Requirements & Qualifications
- PCICU experience is strongly preferred but not mandatory
- Must have current NC or Compact nursing license
- Required certifications include BLS and PALS
- Must be willing to work every other weekend and float as needed
- Flu vaccination is required for all candidates without exception
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, and international searches if applicable
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Flu vaccine (seasonal, no exemptions)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive titers (no exemptions)
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella vaccine or positive titer (boosters required if low/equivocal)
- Polio vaccine or signed attestation
- Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
- Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)
- Completion of required online modules prior to orientation
- Competency exams and unit-specific training during orientation
- Setup of a facility guest account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and clearances before starting
- Orientation includes training on crisis prevention and unit-specific competencies
- Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some documentation accepted on file
- Flu vaccination is strictly enforced for all new candidates starting during flu season (October through March)
