Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical (Travel)

Job Details

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical
• Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
• Overtime: Applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
• Float Requirements:

  • First to float within skillset
  • Possible float to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
  • Mid-shift float within same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement:

  • Work three weekends every six weeks
  • Work every other holiday
• On Call/Call Back: Not required

Experience & Certifications

• Minimum Experience Required:

  • 2 years strong Medical-Surgical experience
  • 1 prior travel assignment required
  • Trauma Level II experience
• Charting: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class required)
• Certifications:

  • Current active compact nursing license
  • AHA BLS
  • NIHSS

Patient Population & Skills

• Patient Population: Post-surgical, UTI, sepsis, high fall risk, COPD, CHF
• Required Skills:

  • Remote telemetry
  • Chest tubes
  • NG/PEG tubes
  • Straight catheter/Foley catheter care
  • Ostomies
  • Heparin drips
  • Blood/blood product administration
  • Tracheostomy care
  • PCA management
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
• Personal Attributes: Hard worker, resilient, adaptable to change, social

Unit Information

• Unit Size: 41 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:6-7
• Support: Experienced leadership and CNA support
• Additional Notes:

  • Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
  • No competing health system or agency logos on scrubs
  • Three call-ins can result in termination
  • COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
  • Guaranteed hours except during holidays when unit is closed

This position requires prior travel experience and a strong background in Medical-Surgical nursing with trauma level II exposure. Night shift availability and flexibility to float within nearby campuses are essential.
