Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU)
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty (default to higher if discrepancy)
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes
  • Shift Requirements:
    • Ratios: 1:5
    • 8 weekend shifts required in a 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
    • Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
  • Floating: Must float within scope to all MSI units including ED for inpatient holds
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)

Skills Required

  • Work Settings: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry, Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, ER Holding, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response: Dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), rapid response team use
  • Cardiovascular Care: Post cardiac events, angiogram, MI, pre/post cardiac cath and surgery
  • Endocrine/Metabolic: IV insulin protocols
  • Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management
  • Renal: Pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Blood product administration, central line care, phlebotomy, peripheral line care, PICC line management, IV starts
  • Medications: Heparin protocols, cardiac drips management (no titration), PCA, procedural sedation administration, titrate cardiac drips
  • Neurological/Psychiatric: CVA care
  • Orthopedics: Peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements
  • Plastics: Surgical drains
  • Respiratory: Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, oxygen masks, non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management
  • Professional Skills: Isolation precautions, wound care, wound vac

Preferred Skills:

  • IV therapy/phlebotomy: Accessing ports
  • Oncology: Monitoring chemotherapy

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks quarterly
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required (no pending at start)
  • State-specific background checks and registries as applicable
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include comprehensive panel and not expire during assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers required: Tdap, TB testing (2 negative PPDs or equivalent), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (with boosters or declinations as applicable)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Various facility-specific compliance documents including HIPAA, confidentiality, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, dress code policies, and regulatory compliance education modules
  • Competency exams required: medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, unit-specific competency exams (including oncology if applicable)
  • Skills checklist required within 1 year of start (oncology skills checklist if applicable)
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)

Additional Notes

  • No prior travel experience explicitly required
  • Must be able to meet all compliance and credentialing requirements prior to start
  • Floating to multiple units expected within scope of practice
  • No on-call requirement specified
