Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Dothan, Alabama
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (36 or 48 hour contract by traveler preference)
Unit Details:

• 42 beds on unit
• 1:6/1:7 nurse-to-patient ratios
• 400 bed facility, Level 2 trauma center

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Alabama
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• ACLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Facility & Job Specific Requirements

• Must live at least 90 miles from the facility (90 mile radius rule)
• Candidate must bring a valid Driver’s License matching the name on RN license
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SS trace, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG required within 30 days of start and updated annually
• NURSYS verification required for RN license
• NIH Stroke Certification required (must be current within 1 year and updated annually) except for PEDS, NICU & surgery specialties
• Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (deadline: Friday before start)
• Must complete and hand-sign Alabama Shirley’s Law APS Clearance Form prior to orientation
• Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually
• Fit mask test within 12 months prior to start (specific approved mask models only)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
• Drug testing: 10 panel within 90 days of start, updated annually (instant/rapid tests not accepted)
• Immunizations and titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
• Flu vaccination required for placements starting on or after 9/15; no declinations accepted except on facility form for medical/religious exemptions (mask required if exempt)
• COVID vaccine is voluntary

Competencies & Documentation

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
• Core Exams I-III from Prophecy highly preferred (HIPAA attestation required)
• Proof of 2 clinical references within last 12 months (may extend to 18 months if necessary)
• Complete employment application/resume
• Skills checklist updated annually for applicable unit

Additional Notes

• Facility requires exact name match on Driver’s License, Social Security Card, and RN license; discrepancies must be resolved before start
• Badge photo required within 72 hours of signing contract (passport-style, no nose rings)
• Religious and medical vaccination exemption forms must be completed on facility-specific forms and reviewed by facility
