Job Opportunity: RRT-NICU (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
  • Shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (1900-0730)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Must float between two campuses located one block apart
  • Required Certifications:
    • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Preferred Certifications/Experience:
    • Experience with Puritan Bennett and Vyaire Avea ventilators
    • Trauma experience
    • Adult Critical Care ventilator experience
    • Extra Corporal experience (preferred)
  • On-call: Not required
  • Block Scheduling: Accommodated

Requirements & Compliance

Background Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check (updated annually)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification including foreign equivalency if applicable

Certifications

  • ACLS, BLS, PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) as applicable
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required for NICU
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required/preferred depending on unit
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment

Competencies

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (85% passing score)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam for certain units (not required for NICU)

Health Documents

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • Required immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (highly preferred for pediatrics)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) titers or vaccines
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or titer
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • COVID vaccination preferred

Additional Training & Facility Specific Documents

  • Compliance checklists and education modules (e.g., Stroke Education, CLABSI Prevention, Pressure Injury Prevention, Language Services, CAUTI Education, Patient Transportation with Oxygen, Suicide Risk Assessment, Pyxis MedStation, Baxter Pump Interoperability, Patient Bedside Rounding, Ventricular Assist Device Awareness, Blood Administration, New Employee Orientation, 21st Century Cures Act, ED Handbook, eCart Training, Chaperone Policy Training)
  • EPIC testing or training for those with Epic experience
  • Vaccination booster medical exemption process if applicable

Employment History & Verification

  • 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Verification of employment for last 7 years required
  • Skills checklist within 12 months of start
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure for certain tech roles
