Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Redlands, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Requirements & Responsibilities

  • Patient Ratio: 1:3 with trachs and ventilator management required
  • Cardiac Drip Management: Non-titrated drips including Amiodarone, Milrinone, Lasix, Cardizem (titrated), Dopamine, and Dobutamine
  • Insulin: 3:1 preferred but not required
  • Certifications Required:
    • NIH Stroke Certification
    • ACLS (AHA only)
    • BLS (AHA only)
  • Experience:
    • MS/Telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units
    • Management and interpretation of dysrhythmias
    • Telemetry monitoring on the unit
    • Use of Rapid Response Teams
    • Post MI care
    • Feeding tube care and management
    • Pre/Post Hemodialysis management
    • Renal failure care
    • Accessing and managing ports, central lines, peripheral lines, PICC lines
    • Starting IVs and managing Heparin protocols
    • Managing cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration)
    • Care of ventilated patients, tracheostomy management, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
    • Use of external CPAP/BIPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), oxygen delivery devices
    • Interpretation of ABGs
    • Isolation precautions
    • Wound care and wound vac management
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Post cardiac angiogram care
    • IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin and cardiac drips
    • Pre/Post neurosurgery care
  • Float Areas: Med/Surg, Telemetry, Observation
  • Weekend Requirement: Minimum 2 weekends per month (may be more)
  • Orientation: 24-hour orientation provided
  • Other: Navy scrubs required (not provided), no local candidates within 50 miles

Experience & Travel Requirements

  • Specialty Experience: PCU experience with 1:3-4 ratios accepted for first-time travelers
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers considered

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid State License (Primary source verification within 30 days of contract start)
  • Background checks including SS trace, county searches (7 years), nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable
  • Drug screening (10-panel including THC) within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 90 days, updated annually)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella titers or vaccines (within 90 days)
    • Flu vaccination or declination (required annually by 10/31)
    • COVID vaccination plus booster or approved exemption
  • Fit mask testing prior to start (specific approved masks)
  • Physical exam within last 12 months, updated annually
  • Signed acknowledgments for safety manual, abuse reporting, confidentiality, code of conduct, drug-free workplace, and other facility-specific policies
  • Professional references (2 within last 2 years) required for Vaya travelers
  • Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable

Additional Notes

  • 1:3 patient ratio with ventilator and trach management is mandatory
  • Weekend coverage and float flexibility required
  • First-time travelers with appropriate PCU experience are welcome
  • Navy scrubs required (not provided)
  • No local candidates within 50 miles considered

This position is ideal for experienced telemetry or stepdown nurses comfortable with complex cardiac and ventilator care, seeking a 13-week travel contract in California.
