Job Opportunity: Pediatric Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Oakland, California
Shift: 12 Hour Days
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Pediatric Oncology Registered Nurse with inpatient oncology experience to provide specialized care in a pediatric setting.

Required Qualifications

• Valid California RN License
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatric Oncology/Inpatient Oncology

Preferred Qualifications

• APHON Certification
• Chemotherapy Certification (ONS/ONCC)
• Experience with Epic electronic health records
• Hematology/Oncology experience

Certifications & Compliance Requirements

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certified (required for many clinical areas, but not specifically for PICU, NICU, and Pediatrics)
• BLS - AHA certified (required for all clinical positions)
• PALS - AHA certified (required for all pediatric units)
• Chemotherapy Certification (required for Oncology and Pediatric Oncology)
• Pass/Fail Telemetry Exam on first day of orientation
• Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score 80%+) within 1 year of start
• Unit Specific Competency Exam (passing score 80%+) within 12 months of start
• Core Clinical Competency Parts I, II, and III (passing score 80%+) completed within 1 year prior to start and updated annually

Background & Verification

• 7-year criminal background check including specific Bay Area counties and nationwide checks
• Education verification (copy of diploma or transcript acceptable)
• Licensure primary source verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
• Drug testing (standard 9 panel excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
• Two supervisory references required, preferably from most recent employment
• Resume with last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained
• Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved masks required), updated annually
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations not accepted except medical exemptions)
• Two negative TB tests (PPD, QuantiFERON, or Tspot) with specific timing requirements; annual TB questionnaire required
• Immunity or vaccination documentation for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required annually
• COVID-19 vaccination requirements including booster doses or approved exemptions

Additional Facility Requirements

• Completion of facility-specific learning modules prior to starting work
• Completion of cybersecurity awareness training and quiz annually
• Compliance with facility-specific COVID-19 preparedness and screening protocols
• Completion of emergency contact information form
• Management of Pass/Fail testing and competency exams as per facility policy
