Job Opportunity: Biomedical Technician (Travel/Contract)

Location: Port Jefferson, New York (split time between two facilities approximately 13 miles apart)
Shift: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

The Biomedical Technician is responsible for performance testing, repair, calibration, and safety testing of medical electronic and electromechanical equipment.


Education Requirements

  • Associate degree in Electronics or Electronic Technical Trade School

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of Biomedical Technician experience
  • Capable of reading and interpreting electronic schematic drawings
  • Analytical, communication, and troubleshooting skills required

Skills Required

  • Basic knowledge of electricity and electronics principles and theories
  • Familiarity with electronic and electro/mechanical test equipment and safe operation
  • Proficiency with Windows 2000 and Microsoft Office applications
  • Basic typing, data entry, and record-keeping skills

Physical Requirements

  • Moderate physical activity including standing for long periods and walking between locations
  • Ability to bend, stretch, reach, and handle delicate items
  • Ability to carry, lift, and/or lower up to 15 lbs
  • Excellent verbal and listening skills for effective communication

Key Job Duties

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on medical devices based on scheduled reports
  • Evaluate, test, and screen new and existing medical devices for hazards
  • Assist in developing safety policies, test procedures, and device efficiency improvements
  • Maintain technical library, spare parts inventory, and order repair parts as needed
  • Assist with orientation of new employees and participate in various committees
  • Attend manufacturer technical service schools and assist with installation and wiring of new equipment
  • Inspect and test rental and borrowed medical devices for performance and safety
  • Assist in emergency situations such as snow or other life-threatening events

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID with clear picture and address
  • Background checks including 7-year history, national sex offender, criminal, and state-specific Medicaid exclusion lists
  • Education verification (diploma or transcript)
  • Physical exam using facility-specific form completed by a physician within 30 days of start
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Standard 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination (declinations allowed with exemptions)
  • COVID vaccination preferred
  • Two clinical references required (supervisor level or above)
  • Employment history covering 7 years with explanations for gaps
