Registered Nurse: Surgical MS/Tele (Nights)

Location: Long Beach, California Employment type: Travel/Contract Contract length: 13 weeks Specialty experience required: 2 years Patient age group: Adults and geriatrics

Shift and Schedule

• 3 x 12-hour night shifts, 19:00 to 07:00
• 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
• Float required
• Weekend coverage: every other weekend
• Unit accepts first-time travelers

Unit Details

• Patient ratios of 1:4 and 1:5 on the unit
• Special equipment: specialty beds and blood warmers
• Special procedures and unit focus: brachytherapy, HDR, clinical trials, chemotherapy and neutropenic precautions
• Communication standard: SBAR
• Scrubs: navy blue

Patient Population and Diagnoses

• Bowel resection, carotid endarterectomy, skin grafts, cholecystectomy
• Reconstructive, plastic, oral, facial, general, and vascular surgery
• Gynecologic cancers and gynecologic conditions requiring surgical or medical intervention
• Pelvic/abdominal pain, bowel obstruction, pelvic mass or myomas

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Med Surg/Telemetry (MS/Tele) experience, 2 years
• Med Surg/Telemetry experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or RQI (AHA Provider, Instructor, or RQI only)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience with feeding tubes
• Colostomy care
• Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI)
• Pre/Post Hemodialysis Management
• Blood product administration
• Central line blood draws
• IV insertion skills
• Experience with PICC lines
• Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA)
• Surgical drains
• Experience with Epic

Preferred Qualifications

• COVID vaccination record (preferred, not required)
