Clinical Decision Unit / Med-Surg Telemetry RN

Overview

• Location: Elkins, WV
• Assignment type: Travel/Contract, 13 weeks
• Start date: ASAP
• Float: May be required
• Travelers: First-time travelers accepted
• Local restriction: 75-mile radius restriction; no locals

Schedule

• Shifts: Night shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour (48-hour) options
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekends: Every other weekend
• Orientation: Held every other Monday

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in West Virginia
• Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) experience of 2 years, with CDU experience within the last year
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Telemetry experience
• Stroke experience
• Rapid Response experience

Certifications Conditionally Required

Per the unit or job description, these may be required:

• PALS (AHA or ARC only)
• NRP
• TNCC

Clinical Experience Listed

• Cardiac telemetry
• Dysrhythmia interpretation
• Stroke/CVA care
• IV starts
• Blood products
• Oxygen therapy
• Rapid response and code situations

Patient population: Cardiac, CHF, COPD, stroke, chest pain, postoperative orthopedic, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, and EENT patients

Competencies

• Competency exam (required)
• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (required as applicable)

Background and Screening

• Criminal background check: 7-year check, run within a year of start and updated annually, covering all locations lived or worked in the past 7 years. Includes SS trace, counties, nationwide, and sex offender searches. International searches are required when applicable and do not delay start unless a hit is not approved by the facility.
• Exclusion checks: EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG, within 30 days of start and updated at each renewal or extension
• WV Nurse Aid Registry check: Required before start (state mandate)
• WV CARES fingerprint clearance: Required for LTC, behavioral health, home health, and hospice units only
• Drug screen: 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; instant tests not accepted
• E-Verify: Required
• Government-issued photo ID: Required and must be carried during all shifts
• Badge photo: Clear, passport-style photo with a solid background

Health and Immunizations

• Physical exam: Within 1 year of start, updated annually
• TB screening: Negative PPD, QuantiFERON Gold, or T-spot within 1 year, updated annually (or 2 PPDs, QGold, or T-spot within 12 months, per facility). TB questionnaire required for all candidates.
• Tdap: Within 10 years of start
• Measles, mumps, rubella, varicella: Positive titer required. If negative or equivocal, 2 boosters at least 28 days apart are required, and the second may be pending at start.
• Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination within 5 years of start. Vaccine series not accepted.
• Flu vaccine: Required for flu season. Medical exemptions accepted with a signed doctor's note and the facility's exemption form. Religious exemptions and declinations not accepted. Pharmacy receipts not accepted.
• RespSafety clearance: Required, updated annually

Onboarding and Documentation

• References: Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluation also accepted)
• Employment application: Complete application or resume
• Skills checklist: Required annually
• Facility modules: Must be completed before arriving onsite on Monday, approximately 3 to 4 hours total. Modules are assigned online and include some non-unit-specific mandatory modules.
• Agency onboarding checklist: Required for all candidates
• Patient rights and responsibilities acknowledgment: Must be signed before start
• Non-employee confidentiality and security agreement: Must be reviewed and signed
