Job Summary
Seeking experienced Registered Nurses for a high-acuity, fast-paced Labor and Delivery unit. The role requires working in a high-risk, high-volume environment with a focus on maternal and newborn care. Candidates must be able to float to postpartum and antepartum units and may be required to float to nearby facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
Required Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of nursing experience in a high acuity and high pace environment (3 years minimum with high-risk experience preferred).
- Prior travel experience required; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
- Must have current supervisory references.
- Experience with high-risk Labor & Delivery, including all types of deliveries and operating room (OR) experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Function as Baby Nurse during delivery and provide newborn care until transfer to postpartum.
- Circulate in the OR during deliveries (HARD STOP requirement).
- Provide newborn care including eye care, Vitamin K injections, thigh assessments, and newborn assessments (HARD STOP requirement).
- Administer medications such as Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate.
- Work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
- Float between Labor & Delivery, postpartum, and antepartum units.
Patient Population
- Midwifery clients and private OB patients.
- Adult recovery services supporting substance recovery.
- Community care clinics.
Unit Details
- High Risk/High Volume Labor & Delivery.
- 4 Operating Rooms.
- Average daily census: 15 patients.
- Approximately 500-600 deliveries per month.
- 31 rooms and 31 beds.
- Schedule posted every 6 weeks to meet unit needs.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Preferred:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- AWHONN Advanced and Intermediate certifications
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification required (AWHONN or NCC-EFM acceptable).
Required Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Washington State.
- Active compact license holders are honored.
Additional Requirements
- Must pass clinical review with proof of current NURSYS verification.
- Must provide proof of required certifications with submission.
- Pre-approved time off is case-by-case.
- Must have completed all required background checks and verifications as per state and facility regulations.
- Must complete all required WorkRamp modules and facility-specific training prior to start.
- Must comply with all health document requirements including physical exam, immunizations, drug testing, and respirator clearance.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Immunizations: TDAP, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination), Flu seasonal vaccination, COVID vaccine or declination.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start.
- Respirator medical clearance for respirator use (annual).
- Fit mask testing as required.
References and Documentation
- Minimum of 2 supervisory references covering at least 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years.
- Skills checklists and competency exams as applicable.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum of 3 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience in a high acuity, high pace environment, including experience with high-risk patients.
- Labor and Delivery experience within the last year.
- Experience working with high-risk patients.
- One completed travel nursing assignment; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (AWHONN or NCC-EFM acceptable).
