Job Overview
- Work in an outpatient hematology clinic serving adult patients with malignant and non-malignant hematology diagnoses.
- Typical shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5 days x 8 hours, 40 hours/week).
- No call, float, or weekend requirements.
- Responsibilities include patient rooming, phlebotomy, central line care, assisting with bone marrow biopsies, vaccinations, EKG, phone triage, scheduling for infusions, patient education, and case management.
- Chemotherapy and infusions are not administered in this clinic setting.
- Manual differentials are performed by lab personnel, not RNs.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
- Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Experience with central line care.
- Experience assisting with bone marrow biopsies.
- Experience using Epic Electronic Medical Record system.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as ONS, BMTCN, or OCN are preferred but not required.
Orientation & Systems
- Unit orientation: 24 hours.
- Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC (EPIC Acute Activation User access required).
- Scrubs: Navy blue (not provided).
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, and national criminal databases, education verification, and state-specific healthcare registry searches required within 90 days prior to start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days and annual updates required.
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training required.
- Negative drug screen (10-panel) within 30 days of start.
- Immunizations and titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with facility-specific declination if titer negative), and seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption. Declinations for MMR and Varicella are not accepted.
- TB testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray within 5 years and annual physician-signed TB questionnaire required.
- Annual compliance and facility-specific education modules must be completed prior to start.
- Candidate must complete facility confidentiality agreement, medication safety training, and other required orientation checklists.
- Photo for badge required (passport style, white background, business attire).
Additional Notes
- RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; excessive call-offs or RTO may result in cancellation.
- Interview with hiring manager required before offer.
- Candidate must provide interview availability within 72 hours of submission.
