Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (Day: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM / Night: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Rotation between day, evening, and night shifts depending on unit needs
- Typically scheduled in 6-week blocks, with shift schedules sent 2 weeks prior
- On-call required, maximum 2 on-call shifts per week, usually on scheduled days but may be separate
- Weekend work required
- Guaranteed hours

Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 12 months of start, including SSN trace, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Foreign equivalency education evaluation and official transcripts required for internationally educated candidates
- Verification of highest education level required
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Fit test (N95 or equivalent) within 12 months, updated annually; clean-shaven required for fit testing
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Required vaccinations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (declination accepted), Tdap (highly preferred for certain specialties)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
- COVID vaccination series preferred
Competency and Training Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 85% score) within 12 months
- Color blind testing required for all candidates (minimum 80% score) starting 8/2/2024
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, all ICU, Progressive Care, PACU, IR/Cath/EPEndo/GI units (not required for NICU or Behavioral Health)
- Language Services Training required
- CAUTI Education Training required (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training required
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm training required except for ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, and NICU
- Stroke Education required except for Pediatric specialties and NICU
- CLABSI Prevention Training required
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training required
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education required
- Pyxis ES MedStation training required
- Baxter Pump Interoperability training required
- Patient Bedside Rounding training required except for OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, and ER/ED
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness training required
- AME Blood Administration Module required annually except for Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, and Home Health
- New Employee Orientation module required by start date
- 21st Century Cures Act Module required for RNs (except Home Health)
- ED Handbook required for ER/ED RNs only
- eCart Training Module required for most RNs (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training required with attestation
- EPIC testing required for ER RNs with prior EPIC experience (optional but highly encouraged)
Work History and References
- 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days required
- Verification of last 7 years of employment required (attestations not accepted)
- One supervisor reference within the past year required for Cardio Thoracic ICU/CTICU (charge nurse references not accepted)
- Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
Special Requirements
- Must be independent with all trauma cases, craniotomy, vascular, and endovascular procedures
- Strong preference for experience with robotics and orthopedic surgery
Additional Notes
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
- Scrub color: Royal blue
- Parking cost: $125/month (for informational purposes)
