Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – IMC/Telemetry

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: Nights, either 3x12 or 4x12 (1845-0715)
  • Average Daily Census: 38 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: May float to like units as needed within scope
  • Block Scheduling: Open to discussion with manager
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • License: Must have an active Illinois RN license (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years as a Registered Nurse

  • First-time travelers: Accepted

  • Required Work Setting Experience:

    • Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
    • Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry
    • Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Observation Unit (DOU), Intermediate Care (IMC), Stepdown units
  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:

    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Telemetry monitoring (both on-unit and remote)
  • Cardiovascular Case Skills:

    • Post Cardiac Angiogram, Post Myocardial Infarction (MI)
    • Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization and Surgery
    • Sheath removal, TR band management
  • Gastrointestinal Care:

    • Feeding tube care and management
  • Genitourinary/Renal Care:

    • Pre/Post Hemodialysis management
    • Renal failure care
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy Skills:

    • Accessing ports, arterial line management
    • Blood product administration
    • Central, peripheral, and PICC line care and management
    • Starting IVs
  • Medication Management:

    • Heparin protocols
    • Managing and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
    • Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA)
  • Neurological/Psychiatric Care:

    • Care for cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patients
    • Experience with surgical drains
  • Respiratory Care:

    • Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
    • External CPAP/BiPAP
    • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
    • Non-invasive airway management
  • Professional Skills:

    • Isolation precautions
    • Wound care and wound vac management
  • Preferred Experience:

    • Previous charge nurse experience
    • Experience with Cerner electronic health record system (required)
    • Teaching hospital experience
    • Level I trauma center experience

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Illinois RN license (active)
  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B vaccine series or positive titer
    • Varicella vaccine or positive titer
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Competency exam and skills checklist required
  • Photo for badge within one week of contract signing
  • References: 2 professional references required

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience with sheath removal and TR band management
  • Arterial line management experience
  • Blood product administration experience
  • Central line care and management experience
  • PICC line management experience
  • Experience with heparin protocols
  • Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Chest tube management experience (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
  • Experience with Cerner electronic health record system

This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital with a focus on telemetry and intermediate care nursing. The role requires strong cardiac, respiratory, and critical care skills with a preference for candidates who have prior charge experience and familiarity with Cerner. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
