Job Description

• Assigned to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Level 3.
• Floating mid-shift is required occasionally but not regularly.
• Floating to sister facilities is required with mileage reimbursement.
• Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours (variable schedule).
• Weekend work required every other weekend.
• On-call required occasionally.
• Must have experience attending high-risk deliveries.
• Epic electronic health record experience preferred.
• Scrub color: any.
• Parking: free for travelers.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
• Minimum 2 years of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
• Experience working with high-risk patients.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Certifications & Exams

• BLS (AHA only, HeartCode acceptable).
• NRP (AAP/AHA Advanced Provider only).
• Medication calculation test (100% passing score required prior to start).
• Pediatric pharmacology competency exam (80% or higher).
• Competency exams relevant to pediatric nursing, updated annually.
• Pass/fail medication calculation exam required.
• ACLS preferred but not required for this placement.
• Other certifications such as PALS, TNCC, CHEMO not required for this NICU role.

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, PA, or APRN.
• Fit test for approved N95 masks within 1 year.
• Immunizations/vaccinations required with documentation:

  • Tdap (within 10 years, no declinations accepted).
  • Negative TB test (Qgold/Tspot within 6 months or two negative PPDs).
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines.
  • Hepatitis B: series or titer (titer preferred).
  • Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no declinations accepted).
• Negative 9-panel drug test (non-THC) within 30 days of start.
• Background checks including criminal, education verification, and others within 30 days of start.
• Valid photo ID (front and back) required on first day.
• Badge photo required (recent, plain background, JPEG format).

Additional Requirements

• References: 2 supervisory references from clinical leadership within 1 year of start.
• Employment application covering full 7 years with no gaps over 6 months without explanation.
• Completion of facility-specific documents including confidentiality, code of conduct, HIPAA, and others prior to start.
• Must comply with facility policies such as fingernail hygiene, meal waiver, and professional accountability expectations.

Work Environment Highlights

• Level 3 NICU with approximately 13 beds.
• Average daily census of 9-10 patients.
• Magnet recognized, teaching hospital, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center.

Notes

• Locals are not accepted for this travel contract.
• Return to office (RTO) restrictions: maximum 6 days.
• Hours are guaranteed after call-off policy is met.
• Block scheduling is not accommodated.
