Located in eastern Virginia and founded in 1610, Hampton is the country's oldest continuously existing English-speaking settlement. It also hosts an impressive modern wonder. The Virginia Air and Space Center focuses on the history of flight and space exploration, housed in a futuristic nine-story building that serves as the visitor center for NASA Langley Research Center and Langley Air Force Base. Some of the Center’s highlights include a five-story 3D IMAX theater, flight simulators, a lunar lander and a three-billion-year-old moon rock. Discover Hampton's earliest history at the Hampton History Museum with exhibits on the early colonists, Native Americans, the infamous pirate Blackbeard and the Civil War. The historic downtown district offers a plethora of art galleries, independent bookstores, gourmet food and wine shops, clothing retailers, cafes and restaurants.
