Registered Nurse – Pain Management

Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 25 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (8:00 AM–4:30 PM or 8:30 AM–5:00 PM)
  • Work Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Worksite: Mission Bay with ability to float to other facilities within the system

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in California
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Pain Management, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Acute Care experience
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in ambulatory/outpatient clinic settings

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Current and valid driver’s license or government photo ID matching professional license
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year criminal history (including specific counties regardless of residence)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
    • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work
  • Drug testing: Standard 9-panel (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (no declinations accepted except medical exemptions)
    • Two negative TB tests (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-Spot) with specific timing requirements
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination (declination must be signed within 1 year)
    • Varicella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required (history of disease not accepted)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or facility-specific declination (required during flu season)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved mask types required), updated annually
  • Annual TB questionnaire within 30 days of start
  • Pass/fail medication and telemetry competency exams required on first day of orientation for applicable units
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
  • Two supervisory references required, preferably from most recent employment
  • Resume with last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained
  • Work history verification for 7 years required

Training & Competency Requirements

  • Completion of core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) with passing score of 80% or higher within 1 year prior to start, updated annually
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam with passing score of 80% or higher within 1 year prior to start, updated annually
  • Unit-specific competency exam with passing score of 80% or higher within 12 months of start
  • Pass/fail telemetry exam required for nurses working in specified units (including critical care, emergency department, telemetry, and others)
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) may be required for emergency department roles
  • NIH Stroke Certification required for emergency department RNs
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required for all RNs

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific learning modules prior to or on first day of orientation (exceptions apply for some in-person trainings)
  • Review and initial facility policies on parking, uniform, COVID-19 preparedness, and cybersecurity awareness
  • Completion of emergency contact information form
  • Compliance with facility’s COVID-19 vaccination policies, including options for medical or religious exemptions (requests must be submitted 2 weeks prior to start)
  • Annual cybersecurity awareness training and quiz with passing score of 80% or higher
  • HIPAA training and quizzes as applicable

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position

  • Floating to other facilities within the system is a job expectation
