Job Description

• Work with adult inpatient psychiatric patients.
• Patient diagnoses include: ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Eating Disorders, PTSD, Anxiety Disorder, Depression, Major Depressive Disorder, Psychotic Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder.
• Patient population may also include individuals with substance abuse disorders, alcohol or opiate withdrawal (usually stable on admission), hypertension, diabetes, geriatric patients at high fall risk, patients in pain, and occasionally patients with wounds.
• Use of electronic patient rounding tools and Rover system for documentation (vital signs, food intake, photos).
• Special equipment used: ObservSmart.

Required Qualifications

• Valid LPN / LVN license in California.
• Minimum of 1 year of Behavioral Health experience, with experience within the last year preferred.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Certification in CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute), MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior), ProAct, or PMAB required.

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC Sanctions List, and Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List checks required as applicable.
• Education verification required unless highest education is high school.
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law).
• Full 7 years of work history required on application with no gaps; employment verification up to 7 years.
• References: 2 professional references required for clinical candidates within 3 years.

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work.
• Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
• Immunizations and/or titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test (PPD or IGRA) or chest x-ray if positive history, renewed annually
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – proof of immunity or vaccination with boosters as needed
  • Hepatitis B series or signed declination
  • Varicella immunity or vaccination with boosters as needed
  • Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30) or signed declination
• Color blindness exam if applicable (in-person only).
• Respiratory safety clearance required annually (not required for some allied health roles).

Orientation and Onboarding

• Orientation dates: May 30–31
• Start date: June 1
• Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents including job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, overpayment refund policy, and regulatory orientation prior to start.
• TB screening questionnaire required within 90 days of start, signed by candidate and healthcare provider (MD, PA, NP/APN, DO, or RN).
• Candidates requesting religious exemptions for vaccines or facial hair must complete specific exemption forms and obtain approval.

Additional Notes

• No return to office (RTO) accepted.
• Unit-specific skills checklist required, renewed annually.
• Medication and pharmacology competency exams required as applicable.
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for some telemetry units.
• Photo for badge required for per diem only.
• Personal or auto insurance required only for home health or driving positions.

This position is ideal for LVNs/LPNs with behavioral health experience seeking a travel contract in an adult inpatient psychiatric setting with a variety of patient diagnoses and acuity levels.
