Registered Nurse - MICU (Travel/Contract)
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Unit: 40-bed, fast-paced, high acuity Medical ICU (MICU)
Job Overview
- Targeted patient ratios: 1:2-3
- Bedside procedures include Endoscopy, Bronchoscopy, Tracheostomy, and G-Tube placement
- Frequent care of patients immediately post-operation
- Use of specialized equipment: ICP monitoring, arterial lines, Flotrac monitoring, BIS, and train of four
- Nurses will be fitted for N95 masks prior to working on the High-Risk Respiratory Unit (HRRU) unless PAPR is offered/needed
- Navy blue scrubs required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio (must be obtained before contract start)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience in a large hospital setting
- At least 1 year of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Floating and Work Location
- Floating assignments possible at employer’s discretion, including support on specialty clusters and high-risk respiratory/COVID units
- Floating locations may include main campus and nearby satellite campuses within 10-15 miles
- Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census, and to cancel the agreement with 2 weeks’ notice without penalty
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives
Competencies and Certifications
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 2 years of start
- Unit-specific competency exam required within 2 years prior to start
- NIH Stroke Certification required within 12 months prior to start and updated annually (exceptions apply for certain cost centers)
- Other certifications required as applicable:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Trachs competency
- Additional certifications such as PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, CPI apply only to specific units and are not required for this MICU role
Health and Background Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, national and multi-state checks, and sex offender registry
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen including marijuana panel within 12 months prior to documentation due date; lab work must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
- Physical exam within 2 years, indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, immune titer, or declination (not required for subcontractors)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray required; if past positive TB, additional documentation and annual questionnaire required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (declinations not accepted)
- Respiratory safety clearance required within 1 year and renewed annually
- Medical questionnaire for respiratory protection must be submitted prior to orientation
Documentation and Verification
- Current resume/application required at submission
- Two professional references within 2 years required; at least one must be a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse
- Skills checklist updated within 1 year prior to documentation due date and annually
- Education verification and licensure primary source verification required
- E-Verify and I-9 compliance required prior to start
- Candidate agreement form must be fully completed prior to documentation due date
Additional Notes
- Request Return to Offer (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer
- RTO approval is at manager’s discretion
- Floating assignments and shift cancellations are subject to employer discretion
- Travelers will not receive employee incentives or benefits from the employer
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity ICU setting with advanced procedures and technology, requiring solid critical care nursing experience and strong competency in telemetry and EKG interpretation.
