Registered Nurse – Correctional (Travel/Contract)
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work primarily in the Addictions Medicine department within a correctional detention center setting.
- Responsibilities include assessments and treatment of patients undergoing substance withdrawal, Suboxone inductions, detox medication administration, and Methadone medication pass.
- Night shift: 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:00 – 6:30).
- Guaranteed 36 hours/week; facility may call off up to 3 shifts during the 13-week assignment.
- No local candidates accepted within a 100-mile radius.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 1 year of wound care experience, with wound care experience within the last year.
- Correctional nursing experience.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
- MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior) certification.
Work Environment & Additional Details
- Facility Type: Detention Center.
- Charting system: Cerner.
- Scrub color: Black.
- No parking fees.
- Patient population includes individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD), alcohol use disorder (ETOH), and polysubstance use.
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
- Open to block scheduling but not guaranteed.
- Travel experience: Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- RTO (Return to Office) restrictions: absences longer than 7 days require approval.
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks.
- A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative work, whichever comes first.
Required Documentation
- Valid non-local driver’s license (identification cards not accepted).
- Social Security card.
- Employment application with at least 3 years of work history.
- Work history verification covering 3 years, including detailed verification information.
- Two professional references within the last 3 years.
- Facility-specific compliance forms including traveler compliance, emergency contact, and confidentiality statements.
- PREA training completion prior to start.
- Background registration and fingerprinting during orientation.
Important Notes
- COVID-19 vaccination is optional; facility reports vaccination status but does not require it.
- Overtime applies after 48 hours worked per week for contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025.
- Candidates must be prepared to work in a correctional environment with behavioral health and addiction medicine focus.
- Failure to meet certification or competency requirements may result in contract termination.
This position is ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable working nights in a correctional facility, focusing on addiction medicine and behavioral health.
