Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Harvey, Illinois
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
• Required experience: Minimum 1 year in Medical Surgical nursing (higher experience requirement prevails if conflicting)
• First-time travel nurses accepted
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating to other units required
• Charting system: Epic
• Block scheduling not accommodated
• Local candidates accepted
• Pending license not accepted
• Return to office (RTO) restrictions: Maximum 7 days

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider or AHA RQI only (no other providers accepted)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for this position; AHA provider or AHA RQI only
• NIH Stroke Certification – Preferred (as applicable)

Required Licensure

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Illinois
• Primary source license verification must be completed within 30 days of assignment start
• NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start

Required Documents & Background Checks

• Valid Driver’s License or State ID
• Background check covering 7 years, including aliases, sex offender registry, national and federal criminal checks, FACIS III, education verification, and international checks if applicable
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start (attestations acceptable for pending searches)
• Education verification for highest level of education (ADN or BSN required)
• Employment verification covering last 7 years, including explanation of any gaps over 30 days
• Skills checklist for assigned and float units, updated annually
• Two professional references required
• Current resume including last 7 years of employment
• Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) fingerprinting required only if no Illinois state license is held (not applicable for RNs)

Health & Immunization Requirements (Must be current and documented)

• Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually, confirming good health
• Fit mask test within 1 year (3M 1860 S/R, 1870+, or 9205+ masks accepted)
• Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
• Immunizations or proof of immunity (positive IGG titers or completed vaccination series) for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
  • Varicella
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years or declination (Td not accepted in lieu of Tdap)
• Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 1 year or clear chest X-ray if positive TB history, plus completed TB questionnaire
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Completion of facility orientation modules (~2 hours) prior to start
• Passport-style photo with plain background for badge
• COVID-19 and Influenza religious or medical exemption forms require detailed completion and must be submitted at least one week prior to documentation due date for approval
• Return to office restrictions and other facility policies must be followed

Additional Notes

• Prior travel experience is not required
• Candidates must be able to float to other units as needed
• All verifications and background checks must be completed timely to avoid start delays

This position offers an opportunity for travel Registered Nurses with at least 1 year of Medical Surgical experience to work a day shift with a 1:6 patient ratio in a fast-paced hospital environment using Epic for charting. Compliance with all licensure, certification, health, and background requirements is mandatory.
