Nurse Navigator - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Portland, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Role involves working as a Community Hematology/Oncology Nurse Navigator providing patient education and care coordination.
  • Patient population: Adult hematology and general medical oncology in an outpatient setting across 5 clinics.
  • Floating between two primary department locations within the Portland metro area.
  • Shift: Day shift, 4 days a week, 10 hours per day (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM).
  • No on-call responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 2 years of hematology/oncology nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Background check must be completed within 6 months prior to start, including education and work history verification.
  • National sex offender search and federal exclusions (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) required within 30 days prior to start.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test including methamphetamines within 3 months prior to start, processed through a SAMHSA-certified lab.
  • Two professional references from supervisors/managers within the last 24 months required.
  • Employment application must include at least 7 years of work history with city and state for each position.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Fit mask test required within 1 year prior to start (specific approved mask types).
  • Immunizations or documented immunity required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (or signed declination).
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (immune titer, vaccines, or signed declination).
    • Hepatitis B (full vaccine series, immune titer, or signed declination).
    • Varicella (immune titer, vaccines, or signed declination).
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, TSPOT, or QGOLD) within 12 months prior to start; chest x-ray and annual questionnaire required if positive history.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required annually by December 1.
  • TB questionnaire required for all candidates.

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory for badge issuance.
  • Required RN modules include:
    • Information Privacy and Security Essentials
    • Integrity Foundations
    • Harassment Prevention Fundamentals
    • Glucometer 2026 (exemptions apply)
    • Omnicell Nurse Patient Care Training (exemptions apply)
    • Vocera Badge Training (for inpatient RNs)
  • Medication override test document provided for orientation (not required before start).

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be fully available for compliance needs up until their start date; any planned unavailability must be communicated in advance.
  • Professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
  • Respirator clearance and fit testing must be completed prior to or at start; onsite fit testing available if agency cannot provide.
  • Personal statement required if any criminal conviction appears on background check; no open court cases allowed.
