RN – PCU Float Pool

Overview

• Temp assignment in Alexandria, Virginia.
• 12-hour night shift: 7p-7a.
• 36 hours per week.
• Contract length: 6 weeks.
• Supports the Adult Inpatient Division.
• Travelers are preassigned to a primary unit and will be first to float based on staffing needs.
• Primary unit assignment may change during the assignment.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia.
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• BLS issued by American Heart Association.
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association.
• NIHSS.
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year.
• 1 year of PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience.
• Strong neuro assessment skills.
• Strong cardiac monitoring skills.
• Experience with Cardizem, amiodarone, and heparin drips.
• Experience with Epic.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior travel experience.

Floating Scope

• May float across inpatient areas based on staffing needs, including:

  • PCU/Telemetry
  • Medical-Surgical/Telemetry
  • Medical units
  • Surgical/Orthopedic units
  • Other areas caring for patients within or below the nurse’s competency and scope

Scheduling

• Minimum 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.
• Holiday coverage based on hospital need.
• 1 major and 1 minor holiday expectation.

Patient Population

• Stroke evaluation, chest pain, arrhythmias, CHF, sepsis, respiratory failure, AKI, GI bleeding, altered mental status, postoperative care, and other medical/PCU diagnoses.
• Should be comfortable with CPAP, high-flow oxygen, telemetry monitoring, ECGs, and escalation of rhythm or clinical changes.

• Scrubs: Navy.
• Orientation includes hospital onboarding and unit-based orientation across applicable inpatient areas.
