Job Opportunity: RN - Med Surg (Travel)
Location: Richmond, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Unit: 5Atrium Ortho Joint Spine (Orthopedic Med Surg)
- Patient Population: Post-operative hip, knee, spine, and other orthopedic surgery patients
- Unit Size: 25 beds
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 5-6 patients per nurse
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; every other weekend required; no guaranteed block scheduling
- Floating: May float to similar med surg units
Unit Environment & Equipment
- Purpose-built unit, just over 1 year old
- Ample general nursing equipment for orthopedic post-op care
- Documentation system: Meditech
- Staffing: 4-5 nurses and 1-3 patient care technicians per shift; unit secretaries available 7am-7pm
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse License
- BLS Certification (required)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Med Surg specialty (post-operative patient care experience preferred)
- Positive attitude and strong patient care focus
- Meditech experience preferred but not required
- No advanced skills or specialty certifications required
Patient Care & Unit Policies
- Bedside shift report and safety rounding (1 hour day shift, 2 hours night shift)
- Use of AIDET communication framework for all patient interactions
- Emphasis on treating patients with courtesy, respect, and making personal connections
- Unit follows hospital policies and guidelines; specifics reviewed at start
Dress Code
- Navy scrubs
- Any closed-toed shoes
