Registered Nurse — Behavioral Health Unit
Location
- Norfolk, Nebraska
Assignment Length
- 13 weeks
Schedule
- 36 hours per week
- Night shift, 6:45 PM–7:15 AM
- Primary night coverage; occasional day shift may be needed
- Every 3rd weekend
- No call
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Behavioral Health (1 year of experience)
- Behavioral Health experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Comfort with physical restraints (4-point and chair)
Patient Population
- Adults 19 years and older
- Behavioral health patients, including substance use, mental health, detox, schizophrenia, suicidal or homicidal ideation, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and geriatric psychiatry
Unit Details
- Behavioral health unit with 18 beds total
- Two care areas:
- Intensive unit: 10 beds
- Progressive unit: 8 beds
- No telemetry
- No IVs on the unit
Key Responsibilities
- Rounding
- Medication administration
- Assessments
- Crisis intervention
- Diabetes management
- Some wound care
- Breathing treatments/inhalers
- Discharges
Work Environment
- Must be comfortable with restraints, including 4-point and chair restraints
- Charge nurse is present each shift
- Typically does not float to other areas; may be used as a 1:1 sitter
- Open to first-time travelers
Orientation
- On-site EPIC training/orientation
- 2 shifts paired with an RN on the floor
Dress Code
- Navy blue scrubs
